Cheetah: The Only Big Cat that Cannot Roar

Cheetah is the world’s fastest land mammal which can go from 0 to 60 miles an hour in just only three seconds. Even most cars cannot compete with this much acceleration. These big cats are extremely agile and can make sudden turns even at high speed. Interestingly, Cheetahs are the only big cats that cannot roar!

They have exceptionally good eyesight which they use to scan for the prey before sprinting at high speed. Cheetahs usually hunt for antelopes and hares. The sprint for the prey are usually over in less than a minute. Cheetahs are daylight hunters and their distinctive spotted coat allows them to camouflage in high and dry grasses.

The high acceleration sprint costs these big cats huge amount of energy but interestingly Cheetahs need only to drink once every three to four days.

Female cheetahs typically give birth to three cubs. The young cubs learn from hunting techniques for one and a half to two years before separating from their mothers. Most of these wild cats are found in eastern and southwestern Africa.
