The Kite Runner is a story of family, love and friendship. A novel about a country, Afghanistan, that is being destroyed rapidly. It is the story of friendship between a wealthy boy of ruling Pashtuns and the son of his father’s servant. It comes against the backdrop of Afghanistan’s devastating history over the last thirty years.

The novel narrates a powerful story of friendship between a son of wealthy merchant of Kabul, Amir, and his servant Hassan. Hassan belong to the despised Hazara community and thus makes the bond between Amir and Hassan an unlikely one.

The story revolves around the themes of friendship, guilt and redemption. Amid the rising ethnic, religious and political tensions, Amir abandons his friend Hassan. The story then centers on Amir’s struggle to redeem for his guilt by rescuing Hassan’s son two decades later.
